2020-07-06Merge branch 'js/default-branch-name'Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-0/+6
The name of the primary branch in existing repositories, and the default name used for the first branch in newly created repositories, is made configurable, so that we can eventually wean ourselves off of the hardcoded 'master'. * js/default-branch-name: contrib: subtree: adjust test to change in fmt-merge-msg testsvn: respect `init.defaultBranch` remote: use the configured default branch name when appropriate clone: use configured default branch name when appropriate init: allow setting the default for the initial branch name via the config init: allow specifying the initial branch name for the new repository docs: add missing diamond brackets submodule: fall back to remote's HEAD for missing remote.<name>.branch send-pack/transport-helper: avoid mentioning a particular branch fmt-merge-msg: stop treating `master` specially
2020-06-24testsvn: respect `init.defaultBranch`Libravatar Johannes Schindelin1-0/+6
The default name of the initial branch in new repositories can now be configured. The `testsvn` remote helper translates the remote Subversion repository's branch name `trunk` to the hard-coded name `master`. Clearly, the intention was to make the name align with Git's defaults. So while we are not talking about a newly-created repository in the `testsvn` context, it is a newly-created _Git_ repository, si it _still_ makes sense to use the overridden default name for the initial branch whenever users configured it. 2020-05-20t: use update-ref and show-ref to reading/writing refsLibravatar Han-Wen Nienhuys1-2/+2
Reading and writing .git/refs/* assumes that refs are stored in the 'files' ref backend. Signed-off-by: Han-Wen Nienhuys <hanwen@google.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2018-01-03Allow the test suite to pass in a directory whose name contains spacesLibravatar Johannes Schindelin1-2/+2
It is totally legitimate to clone Git's source code anywhere, including into, say, directories whose name (or the name of its absolute path) contains spaces. However, a couple of tests failed to anticipate this, for lack of quoting (or in one instance, for failure to expect more than one space in the absolute path of the TEST_DIRECTORY). This can be easily verified by calling these commands in your current clone: git clone . with\ spaces cd with\ spaces make -j15 test Let's fix this. 2012-12-19t9020: use configured Python to run the test helperLibravatar Junio C Hamano1-3/+7
The test helper svnrdump_sim.py is used as "svnrdump" during the execution of this test, but the arrangement was not optimal: - it relied on symbolic links; - unportable "export VAR=VAL" was used; - GIT_BUILD_DIR variable was not quoted correctly; - it assumed that the Python interpreter is in /usr/bin/ and called "python" (i.e. not "python2.7" etc.) Rework this by writing a small shell script that spawns the right Python interpreter, using the right quoting.
