2021-04-08rm: honor sparse checkout patternsLibravatar Matheus Tavares1-5/+0
`git add` refrains from adding or updating index entries that are outside the current sparse checkout, but `git rm` doesn't follow the same restriction. This is somewhat counter-intuitive and inconsistent. So make `rm` honor the sparsity rules and advise on how to remove SKIP_WORKTREE entries just like `add` does. Also add some tests for the new behavior. Suggested-by: Elijah Newren <newren@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Matheus Tavares <matheus.bernardino@usp.br> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2021-02-09grep: honor sparse-checkout on working tree searchesLibravatar Matheus Tavares1-9/+0
On a sparse checked out repository, `git grep` (without --cached) ends up searching the cache when an entry matches the search pathspec and has the SKIP_WORKTREE bit set. This is confusing both because the sparse paths are not expected to be in a working tree search (as they are not checked out), and because the output mixes working tree and cache results without distinguishing them. (Note that grep also resorts to the cache on working tree searches that include --assume-unchanged paths. But the whole point in that case is to assume that the contents of the index entry and the file are the same. This does not apply to the case of sparse paths, where the file isn't even expected to be present.) Fix that by teaching grep to honor the sparse-checkout rules for working tree searches. If the user wants to grep paths outside the current sparse-checkout definition, they may either update the sparsity rules to materialize the files, or use --cached to search all blobs registered in the index. Note: it might also be interesting to add a configuration option that allow users to search paths that are present despite having the SKIP_WORKTREE bit set, and/or to restrict searches in the index and past revisions too. These ideas are left as future improvements to avoid conflicting with other sparse-checkout topics currently in flight. 2018-05-14t: switch $_z40 to $ZERO_OIDLibravatar brian m. carlson1-1/+1
Switch all uses of $_z40 to $ZERO_OID so that they work correctly with larger hashes. This commit was created by using the following sed command to modify all files in the t directory except t/test-lib.sh: sed -i 's/\$_z40/$ZERO_OID/g' Signed-off-by: brian m. carlson <sandals@crustytoothpaste.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2016-07-18test-lib.sh: introduce and use $EMPTY_BLOBLibravatar Nguyễn Thái Ngọc Duy1-7/+5
Similar to $EMPTY_TREE this makes it easier to recognize this special SHA-1 and change hash later. Signed-off-by: Nguyễn Thái Ngọc Duy <pclouds@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2013-06-30test: spell 'ls-files --delete' option correctly in test descriptionsLibravatar SZEDER Gábor1-2/+2
The option is spelled '--deleted'. Signed-off-by: SZEDER Gábor <szeder@ira.uka.de> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2011-04-23test: use $_z40 from test-libLibravatar Junio C Hamano1-2/+2
There is no need to duplicate the definition of $_z40 and $_x40 that test-lib.sh supplies the test scripts. Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2009-12-14commit: correctly respect skip-worktree bitLibravatar Nguyễn Thái Ngọc Duy1-2/+2
Commit b4d1690 (Teach Git to respect skip-worktree bit (reading part)) fails to make "git commit -- a b c" respect skip-worktree (i.e. not committing paths that are skip-worktree). This is because when the index is reset back to HEAD, all skip-worktree information is gone. This patch saves skip-worktree information in the string list of committed paths, then reuse it later on to skip skip-worktree paths.
