Many tests have an initial setup step that might fail based
on whether earlier tests in the script have succeeded or
not. Using a trick like "|| true" breaks the &&-chain,
missing earlier failures (and fooling --chain-lint).
We can use test_might_fail in some cases, which is correct
and makes the intent more obvious. We can also use
test_unconfig for unsetting config (and which is more
robust, as well).
The case in t9500 is an oddball. It wants to run cmd1 _or_
cmd2, and does it like:
cmd1 || cmd2 &&
other_stuff
It's not wrong in this case, but it's a bad habit to get
into, because it breaks the &&-chain if used anywhere except
at the beginning of the test (and we use the correct
solution here, putting it inside a block for precedence).

Prefer:
test_line_count <OP> COUNT FILE
over:
test $(wc -l <FILE) <OP> COUNT
(or similar usages) in several tests.

Change several tests to use the sane_unset function introduced in
v1.7.3.1-35-g00648ba instead of the built-in unset function.
This fixes a failure I was having on t9130-git-svn-authors-file.sh on
Solaris, and prevents several other issues from occurring.

Previous D/F fixes I submitted (5a2580d and ae74548) had caused merge to
become excessively spammy, which was fixed in 96ecac6 (merge-recursive:
Avoid excessive output for and reprocessing of renames 2010-08-20). Add a
new test to avoid repeating that mistake with my several upcoming changes.

The point of rename limiting is to bound the amount of time
we spend figuring out inexact renames. Currently we use a
single value, diff.renamelimit, for all situations. However,
it is probably the case that a user is willing to spend more
time finding renames during a merge than they are while
looking at git-log.
This patch provides a way of setting those values separately
(though for backwards compatibility, merge still falls back
on the diff renamelimit).
