2016-03-16clone tests: rename t57* => t56*Libravatar Stefan Beller1-70/+0
When trying to find a good spot for testing clone with submodules, I got confused where to add a new test file. There are both tests in t560* as well as t57* both testing the clone command. t/README claims the second digit is to indicate the command, which is inconsistent to the current naming structure. Rename all t57* tests to be in t56* to follow the pattern of the digits as laid out in t/README. It would have been less work to rename t56* => t57* because there are less files, but the tests in t56* look more basic and I assumed the higher the last digits the more complicated niche details are tested, so with the patch now it looks more in order to me. 2013-10-14clone --branch: refuse to clone if upstream repo is emptyLibravatar Ralf Thielow1-1/+7
Since 920b691 (clone: refuse to clone if --branch points to bogus ref) we refuse to clone with option "-b" if the specified branch does not exist in the (non-empty) upstream. If the upstream repository is empty, the branch doesn't exist, either. So refuse the clone too. 2012-01-16clone: refuse to clone if --branch points to bogus refLibravatar Nguyễn Thái Ngọc Duy1-6/+2
It's possible that users make a typo in the branch name. Stop and let users recheck. Falling back to remote's HEAD is not documented any way. Except when using remote helper, the pack has not been transferred at this stage yet so we don't waste much bandwidth. 2009-08-26clone: add --branch option to select a different HEADLibravatar Jeff King1-0/+68
We currently point the HEAD of a newly cloned repo to the same ref as the parent repo's HEAD. While a user can then "git checkout -b foo origin/foo" whichever branch they choose, it is more convenient and more efficient to tell clone which branch you want in the first place. Based on a patch by Kirill A. Korinskiy. Signed-off-by: Jeff King <peff@peff.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
