2013-10-14clone --branch: refuse to clone if upstream repo is emptyLibravatar Ralf Thielow1-1/+7
Since 920b691 (clone: refuse to clone if --branch points to bogus ref) we refuse to clone with option "-b" if the specified branch does not exist in the (non-empty) upstream. If the upstream repository is empty, the branch doesn't exist, either. So refuse the clone too. It's possible that users make a typo in the branch name. Stop and let users recheck. Falling back to remote's HEAD is not documented any way. Except when using remote helper, the pack has not been transferred at this stage yet so we don't waste much bandwidth. 2009-08-26clone: add --branch option to select a different HEADLibravatar Jeff King1-0/+68
We currently point the HEAD of a newly cloned repo to the same ref as the parent repo's HEAD. While a user can then "git checkout -b foo origin/foo" whichever branch they choose, it is more convenient and more efficient to tell clone which branch you want in the first place. Based on a patch by Kirill A. Korinskiy. Signed-off-by: Jeff King <peff@peff.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
