2021-04-01builtin/clone.c: add --reject-shallow optionLibravatar Li Linchao1-0/+25
In some scenarios, users may want more history than the repository offered for cloning, which happens to be a shallow repository, can give them. But because users don't know it is a shallow repository until they download it to local, we may want to refuse to clone this kind of repository, without creating any unnecessary files. The '--depth=x' option cannot be used as a solution; the source may be deep enough to give us 'x' commits when cloned, but the user may later need to deepen the history to arbitrary depth. Teach '--reject-shallow' option to "git clone" to abort as soon as we find out that we are cloning from a shallow repository. 2020-11-19tests: mark tests relying on the current default for `init.defaultBranch`Libravatar Johannes Schindelin1-0/+3
In addition to the manual adjustment to let the `linux-gcc` CI job run the test suite with `master` and then with `main`, this patch makes sure that GIT_TEST_DEFAULT_INITIAL_BRANCH_NAME is set in all test scripts that currently rely on the initial branch name being `master by default. To determine which test scripts to mark up, the first step was to force-set the default branch name to `master` in - all test scripts that contain the keyword `master`, - t4211, which expects `t/t4211/history.export` with a hard-coded ref to initialize the default branch, - t5560 because it sources `t/t556x_common` which uses `master`, - t8002 and t8012 because both source `t/annotate-tests.sh` which also uses `master`) This trick was performed by this command: $ sed -i '/^ *\. \.\/\(test-lib\|lib-\(bash\|cvs\|git-svn\)\|gitweb-lib\)\.sh$/i\ GIT_TEST_DEFAULT_INITIAL_BRANCH_NAME=master\ export GIT_TEST_DEFAULT_INITIAL_BRANCH_NAME\ ' $(git grep -l master t/t[0-9]*.sh) \ t/t4211*.sh t/t5560*.sh t/t8002*.sh t/t8012*.sh After that, careful, manual inspection revealed that some of the test scripts containing the needle `master` do not actually rely on a specific default branch name: either they mention `master` only in a comment, or they initialize that branch specificially, or they do not actually refer to the current default branch. The reason? `git p4` stores the (foreign) remote branch in the branch called `p4/master`, which is obviously not the default branch. 2020-04-11t: restrict `is_hidden` to be called only on WindowsLibravatar Johannes Schindelin1-3/+3
The function won't work anywhere else, so let's mark it as an explicit bug if it is called on a non-Windows platform. Let's also rename the function to avoid cluttering the global namespace with an overly-generic function name. While at it, we also fix the code comment above that function: the lower-case `windows` refers to something different than `Windows`. The `is_hidden` function can be used (only on Windows) to determine whether a directory or file have their `hidden` flag set. This function is duplicated between two test scripts. It is better to move it into `test-lib-functions.sh` so that it is reused. This patch is best viewed with `--color-moved`. 2018-11-16clone: respect additional configured fetch refspecs during initial fetchLibravatar SZEDER Gábor1-0/+47
The initial fetch during a clone doesn't transfer refs matching additional fetch refspecs given on the command line as configuration variables, e.g. '-c remote.origin.fetch=<refspec>'. This contradicts the documentation stating that configuration variables specified via 'git clone -c <key>=<value> ...' "take effect immediately after the repository is initialized, but before the remote history is fetched" and the given example specifically mentions "adding additional fetch refspecs to the origin remote". Furthermore, one-shot configuration variables specified via 'git -c <key>=<value> clone ...', though not written to the newly created repository's config file, live during the lifetime of the 'clone' command, including the initial fetch. All this implies that any fetch refspecs specified this way should already be taken into account during the initial fetch. The reason for this is that the initial fetch is not a fully fledged 'git fetch' but a bunch of direct calls into the fetch/transport machinery with clone's own refs-to-refspec matching logic, which bypasses parts of 'git fetch' processing configured fetch refspecs. This logic only considers a single default refspec, potentially influenced by options like '--single-branch' and '--mirror'. The configured refspecs are, however, already read and parsed properly when clone calls remote.c:remote_get(), but it never looks at the parsed refspecs in the resulting 'struct remote'. Modify clone to take the remote's configured fetch refspecs into account to retrieve all matching refs during the initial fetch. Note that we have to explicitly add the default fetch refspec to the remote's refspecs, because at that point the remote only includes the fetch refspecs specified on the command line. Add tests to check that refspecs given both via 'git clone -c ...' and 'git -c ... clone' retrieve all refs matching either the default or the additional refspecs, and that it works even when the user specifies an alternative remote name via '--origin=<name>'. "git clone --config" uses the following incantation to add an item to a config file, instead of replacing an existing value: git_config_set_multivar_gently(key, value, "^$", 0) As long as no existing value matches the regex ^$, that works as intended and adds to the config. When a value is empty, though, it replaces the existing value. Noticed while trying to set credential.helper during a clone to use a specific helper without inheriting from ~/.gitconfig and /etc/gitconfig. That is, I ran git clone -c credential.helper= \ -c credential.helper=myhelper \ https://example.com/repo intending to produce the configuration [credential] helper = helper = myhelper Without this patch, the 'helper =' line is not included and the credential helper from /etc/gitconfig gets used. 2016-03-16clone tests: rename t57* => t56*Libravatar Stefan Beller1-0/+40
When trying to find a good spot for testing clone with submodules, I got confused where to add a new test file. There are both tests in t560* as well as t57* both testing the clone command. t/README claims the second digit is to indicate the command, which is inconsistent to the current naming structure. Rename all t57* tests to be in t56* to follow the pattern of the digits as laid out in t/README. It would have been less work to rename t56* => t57* because there are less files, but the tests in t56* look more basic and I assumed the higher the last digits the more complicated niche details are tested, so with the patch now it looks more in order to me.
