2021-04-15transport: respect verbosity when setting upstreamLibravatar Øystein Walle1-0/+7
A command such as `git push -qu origin feature` will print "Branch 'feature' set up to track remote branch 'feature' from 'origin'." even when --quiet is passed. In this case it's because install_branch_config() is always called with BRANCH_CONFIG_VERBOSE. struct transport keeps track of the desired verbosity. Fix the above issue by passing BRANCH_CONFIG_VERBOSE conditionally based on that. Signed-off-by: Øystein Walle <oystwa@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2020-11-19t55[23]*: adjust the references to the default branch name "main"Libravatar Johannes Schindelin1-16/+16
Carefully excluding t5526, which sees independent development elsewhere at the time of writing, we use `main` as the default branch name in t55[23]*. This trick was performed via $ (cd t && sed -i -e 's/master/main/g' -e 's/MASTER/MAIN/g' \ -e 's/Master/Main/g' -e 's/naster/nain/g' -- \ t55[23]*.sh && git checkout HEAD -- t5526\*) Note that t5533 contains a variation of the name `master` (`naster`) that we rename here, too. This commit allows us to define `GIT_TEST_DEFAULT_INITIAL_BRANCH_NAME=main` for that range of tests. 2020-11-19tests: mark tests relying on the current default for `init.defaultBranch`Libravatar Johannes Schindelin1-0/+3
In addition to the manual adjustment to let the `linux-gcc` CI job run the test suite with `master` and then with `main`, this patch makes sure that GIT_TEST_DEFAULT_INITIAL_BRANCH_NAME is set in all test scripts that currently rely on the initial branch name being `master by default. To determine which test scripts to mark up, the first step was to force-set the default branch name to `master` in - all test scripts that contain the keyword `master`, - t4211, which expects `t/t4211/history.export` with a hard-coded ref to initialize the default branch, - t5560 because it sources `t/t556x_common` which uses `master`, - t8002 and t8012 because both source `t/annotate-tests.sh` which also uses `master`) This trick was performed by this command: $ sed -i '/^ *\. \.\/\(test-lib\|lib-\(bash\|cvs\|git-svn\)\|gitweb-lib\)\.sh$/i\ GIT_TEST_DEFAULT_INITIAL_BRANCH_NAME=master\ export GIT_TEST_DEFAULT_INITIAL_BRANCH_NAME\ ' $(git grep -l master t/t[0-9]*.sh) \ t/t4211*.sh t/t5560*.sh t/t8002*.sh t/t8012*.sh After that, careful, manual inspection revealed that some of the test scripts containing the needle `master` do not actually rely on a specific default branch name: either they mention `master` only in a comment, or they initialize that branch specificially, or they do not actually refer to the current default branch. Therefore, the aforementioned modification was undone in those test scripts thusly: $ git checkout HEAD -- \ t/t0027-auto-crlf.sh t/t0060-path-utils.sh \ t/t1011-read-tree-sparse-checkout.sh \ t/t1305-config-include.sh t/t1309-early-config.sh \ t/t1402-check-ref-format.sh t/t1450-fsck.sh \ t/t2024-checkout-dwim.sh \ t/t2106-update-index-assume-unchanged.sh \ t/t3040-subprojects-basic.sh t/t3301-notes.sh \ t/t3308-notes-merge.sh t/t3423-rebase-reword.sh \ t/t3436-rebase-more-options.sh \ t/t4015-diff-whitespace.sh t/t4257-am-interactive.sh \ t/t5323-pack-redundant.sh t/t5401-update-hooks.sh \ t/t5511-refspec.sh t/t5526-fetch-submodules.sh \ t/t5529-push-errors.sh t/t5530-upload-pack-error.sh \ t/t5548-push-porcelain.sh \ t/t5552-skipping-fetch-negotiator.sh \ t/t5572-pull-submodule.sh t/t5608-clone-2gb.sh \ t/t5614-clone-submodules-shallow.sh \ t/t7508-status.sh t/t7606-merge-custom.sh \ t/t9302-fast-import-unpack-limit.sh We excluded one set of test scripts in these commands, though: the range of `git p4` tests. The reason? `git p4` stores the (foreign) remote branch in the branch called `p4/master`, which is obviously not the default branch. Manual analysis revealed that only five of these tests actually require a specific default branch name to pass; They were modified thusly: $ sed -i '/^ *\. \.\/lib-git-p4\.sh$/i\ GIT_TEST_DEFAULT_INITIAL_BRANCH_NAME=master\ export GIT_TEST_DEFAULT_INITIAL_BRANCH_NAME\ ' t/t980[0167]*.sh t/t9811*.sh Signed-off-by: Johannes Schindelin <johannes.schindelin@gmx.de> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2020-09-26tests: avoid variations of the `master` branch nameLibravatar Johannes Schindelin1-10/+10
The term `master` has a loaded history that serves as a constant reminder of racial injustice. The Git project has no desire to perpetuate this and already started avoiding it. The test suite uses variations of this name for branches other than the default one. Apart from t3200, where we just addressed this in the previous commit, those instances can be renamed in an automated manner because they do not require any changes outside of the test script, so let's do that. Seeing as the touched branches have very little (if anything) to do with the default branch, we choose to use a completely separate naming scheme: `topic_<number>` (it cannot be `topic-<number>` because t5515 uses the `test_oid` machinery with the term, and that machinery uses shell variables internally, whose names cannot contain dashes). This trick was performed by this (GNU) sed invocation: $ sed -i 's/master\([a-z0-9]\)/topic_\1/g' t/t*.sh Signed-off-by: Johannes Schindelin <johannes.schindelin@gmx.de> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2018-08-21tests: use 'test_must_be_empty' instead of 'test_cmp /dev/null <out>'Libravatar SZEDER Gábor1-1/+1
Using 'test_must_be_empty' is more idiomatic than 'test_cmp /dev/null out', and its message on error is perhaps a bit more to the point. This patch was basically created by running: sed -i -e 's%test_cmp /dev/null%test_must_be_empty%' t[0-9]*.sh with the exception of the change in 'should not fail in an empty repo' in 't7401-submodule-summary.sh', where it was 'test_cmp output /dev/null'. 2016-06-17t5523: use test_i18ngrep for negationLibravatar Vasco Almeida1-4/+4
Replace the first form with the second one: ! grep expected actual test_i18ngrep ! expected actual The latter syntax is supported by test_i18ngrep defined in t/test-lib.sh. Although the test already passes whether GETTEXT_POSION is enabled, use the i18n grep variant for the sake of consistency and also to make obvious that those strings are subject to i18n. 2016-06-17tests: use test_i18n* functions to suppress false positivesLibravatar Vasco Almeida1-2/+2
The test functions test_i18ncmp and test_i18ngrep pretend success if run under GETTEXT_POISON. By using those functions to test output which is correctly marked as translatable, enables one to detect if the strings newly marked for translation are from plumbing output. If they are indeed from plumbing, the test would fail, and the string should be unmarked, since it is not seen by users. Thus, it is productive to not have false positives when running the test under GETTEXT_POISON. This commit replaces normal test functions by their i18n aware variants in use-cases know to be correctly marked for translation, suppressing false positives. 2012-02-13push/fetch/clone --no-progress suppresses progress outputLibravatar Clemens Buchacher1-1/+2
By default, progress output is disabled if stderr is not a terminal. The --progress option can be used to force progress output anyways. Conversely, --no-progress does not force progress output. In particular, if stderr is a terminal, progress output is enabled. This is unintuitive. Change --no-progress to force output off. 2012-01-08fix push --quiet: add 'quiet' capability to receive-packLibravatar Clemens Buchacher1-0/+7
Currently, git push --quiet produces some non-error output, e.g.: $ git push --quiet Unpacking objects: 100% (3/3), done. This fixes a bug reported for the fedora git package: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=725593 Reported-by: Jesse Keating <jkeating@redhat.com> Cc: Todd Zullinger <tmz@pobox.com> Commit 90a6c7d4 (propagate --quiet to send-pack/receive-pack) introduced the --quiet option to receive-pack and made send-pack pass that option. Older versions of receive-pack do not recognize the option, however, and terminate immediately. The commit was therefore reverted. This change instead adds a 'quiet' capability to receive-pack, which is a backwards compatible. In addition, this fixes push --quiet via http: A verbosity of 0 means quiet for remote helpers. 2010-10-18push: pass --progress down to git-pack-objectsLibravatar Jeff King1-2/+2
When pushing via builtin transports (like file://, git://), the underlying transport helper (in this case, git-pack-objects) did not get the --progress option, even if it was passed to git push. Fix this, and update the tests to reflect this. Note that according to the git-pack-objects documentation, we can safely apply the usual --progress semantics for the transport commands like clone and fetch (and for pushing over other smart transports).
