2021-11-01leak tests: mark some diff tests as passing with SANITIZE=leakLibravatar Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason1-0/+2
Mark some tests that match "*diff*" as passing when git is compiled with SANITIZE=leak. They'll now be listed as running under the "GIT_TEST_PASSING_SANITIZE_LEAK=true" test mode (the "linux-leaks" CI target). 2021-10-15"lib-diff" tests: make "README" and "COPYING" test data smallerLibravatar Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason1-2/+2
Follow-up the change in 459b8d22e54 (tests: do not borrow from COPYING and README from the real source, 2015-02-15) by not shipping a full copy of older versions of the top-level "COPYING" and "README" files. The tests that use them just need the small blurb at the top of "COPYING" as test data, or mock data that's dissimilar. Let's provide that with a "COPYING_test_data" function instead. We're not replacing this with some other generic test data (e.g. "lorum ipsum") because these tests require test file header to be the old "COPYING" file. See e.g. "t4003-diff-rename-1.sh" which changes the file, and then does full "test_cmp" comparisons on the resulting "git diff" output. This change only changes tests that used the "lib-diff.sh" library, but splits up what they need into a new "lib-diff-data.sh". A subsequent commit will change related tests that were missed in 459b8d22e54. For the test in "t4008-diff-break-rewrite.sh" the "README" file can go away in favor of echoing the line "some dissimilar content" to a file in the one test that needed it. The point of that test is to start with files "A" and "B", and then have A be more similar to the state of "B" than to its old version (by copying over the content from the "COPYING" file). Just comparing the pre-image of "some dissimilar content" and later a munged version of the "COPYING" output serves that purpose. While we're at it get rid of a stray "echo $tree" debugging line added in 15d061b435a ([PATCH] Fix the way diffcore-rename records unremoved source., 2005-05-27), and stop calling "hash-object" to get the hash of an object we've just added to the index. We can instead extract that information from the index itself with "rev-parse". Signed-off-by: Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason <avarab@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2021-02-12test libs: rename "diff-lib" to "lib-diff"Libravatar Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason1-3/+3
Rename the "diff-lib" to "lib-diff". With this rename and preceding commits there is no remaining t/*lib* which doesn't follow the convention of being called t/lib-*. Signed-off-by: Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason <avarab@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2020-08-06t: don't spuriously close and reopen quotesLibravatar Martin Ågren1-2/+2
In the test scripts, the recommended style is, e.g.: test_expect_success 'name' ' do-something somehow && do-some-more testing ' When using this style, any single quote in the multi-line test section is actually closing the lone single quotes that surround it. It can be a non-issue in practice: test_expect_success 'sed a little' ' sed -e 's/hi/lo/' in >out # "ok": no whitespace in s/hi/lo/ ' Or it can be a bug in the test, e.g., because variable interpolation happens before the test even begins executing: v=abc test_expect_success 'variable interpolation' ' v=def && echo '"$v"' # abc ' Change several such in-test single quotes to use double quotes instead or, in a few cases, drop them altogether. These were identified using some crude grepping. We're not fixing any test bugs here, but we're hopefully making these tests slightly easier to grok and to maintain. There are legitimate use cases for closing a quote and opening a new one, e.g., both '\'' and '"'"' can be used to produce a literal single quote. I'm not touching any of those here. In t9401, tuck the redirecting ">" to the filename while we're touching those lines. Signed-off-by: Martin Ågren <martin.agren@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2017-06-10t4005: modernize style and drop hard coded sha1Libravatar Stefan Beller1-52/+43
Use modern style in the test t4005. Remove hard coded sha1 values. Combine test prep work and the actual test. Rename the first test to contain the word "setup". Signed-off-by: Stefan Beller <sbeller@google.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>

2015-02-15tests: do not borrow from COPYING and README from the real sourceLibravatar Junio C Hamano1-2/+2
These two files have been modified since the tests started using as test input, making the exact object names they expect to be different from what actually happens in the trash repository they use to run tests. Instead, take a snapshot of these two files and keep them in t/diff-lib/ so that we can update the real ones without having to worry about breaking tests. 2011-02-18diffcore-rename: properly honor the difference between -M and -CLibravatar Linus Torvalds1-1/+1
We would allow rename detection to do copy detection even when asked purely for renames. That confuses users, but more importantly it can terminally confuse the recursive merge rename logic. 2008-08-17tests: use $TEST_DIRECTORY to refer to the t/ directoryLibravatar Junio C Hamano1-3/+3
Many test scripts assumed that they will start in a 'trash' subdirectory that is a single level down from the t/ directory, and referred to their test vector files by asking for files like "../t9999/expect". This will break if we move the 'trash' subdirectory elsewhere. To solve this, we earlier introduced "$TEST_DIRECTORY" so that they can refer to t/ directory reliably. This finally makes all the tests use it to refer to the outside environment. With this patch, and a one-liner not included here (because it would contradict with what Dscho really wants to do): | diff --git a/t/test-lib.sh b/t/test-lib.sh | index 70ea7e0..60e69e4 100644 | --- a/t/test-lib.sh | +++ b/t/test-lib.sh | @@ -485,7 +485,7 @@ fi | . ../GIT-BUILD-OPTIONS | | # Test repository | -test="trash directory" | +test="trash directory/another level/yet another" | rm -fr "$test" || { | trap - exit | echo >&5 "FATAL: Cannot prepare test area" all the tests still pass, but we would want extra sets of eyeballs on this type of change to really make sure. 2005-09-22Retire diff-helper.Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-80/+0
The textual diff generation with built-in '-p' in diff-* brothers has proven to be useful enough that git-diff-helper outlived its usefulness. Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>
2005-09-07Big tool rename.Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-7/+7
As promised, this is the "big tool rename" patch. The primary differences since 0.99.6 are: (1) git-*-script are no more. The commands installed do not have any such suffix so users do not have to remember if something is implemented as a shell script or not. (2) Many command names with 'cache' in them are renamed with 'index' if that is what they mean. There are backward compatibility symblic links so that you and Porcelains can keep using the old names, but the backward compatibility support is expected to be removed in the near future. 2005-07-26Adjust diff-raw tests to the status letter change.Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-0/+0
We use 'A' for added files instead of 'N' to make the it visually easier to distinguish from 'M' now. While we are at it, make the test scripts executable. Yes, I know it does not matter because t/Makefile runs them explicitly with "sh tXXXX-blah.sh", but being consistent is always better. Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>
2005-06-19[PATCH] Make -C less eager.Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-1/+1
Like diff-tree, this patch makes -C option for diff-* brothers to use only pre-image of modified files as rename/copy detection by default. Give --find-copies-harder to use unmodified files to find copies from as well. This also fixes "diff-files -C" problem earlier noticed by Linus. It was feeding the null sha1 even when the file in the work tree was known to match what is in the index file. This resulted in diff-files showing everything in the project. 2005-06-05diff 'rename' format change.Libravatar Linus Torvalds1-2/+2
Clearly even Junio felt git "rename" header lines should say "from/to" instead of "old/new", since he wrote the documentation that way. This way it also matches "copy". git-apply will accept both versions, at least for a while.
2005-05-31[PATCH] diff: consolidate test helper script pieces.Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-22/+1
There were duplicate script pieces to help comparing diff output, which this patch consolidates into the t/diff-lib.sh library. Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-05-30[PATCH] diff-helper: Fix R/C score parsing under -z flag.Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-7/+13
The score number that follow R/C status were parsed but the parse pointer was not updated, causing the entire line to become unrecognized. This patch fixes this problem. There was a test missing to catch this breakage, which this commit adds as t4009-diff-rename-4.sh. The diff-raw tests used in related t4005-diff-rename-2.sh (the same test without -z) and t4007-rename-3.sh were stricter than necessarily, despite that the comment for the tests said otherwise. This patch also corrects them. The documentation is updated to say that the status can optionally be followed by a number called "score"; it does not have to stay similarity index forever and there is no reason to limit it only to C and R. 2005-05-24[PATCH] Redo rename/copy detection logic.Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-9/+9
Earlier implementation had a major screw-up in the memory management area. Rename/copy logic sometimes borrowed a pointer to a structure without any provision for downstream to determine which pointer is shared and which is not. This resulted in the later clean-up code to sometimes double free such structure, resulting in a segfault. This made -M and -C useless. Another problem the earlier implementation had was that it reordered the patches, and forced the logic to differentiate renames and copies to depend on that particular order. This problem was fixed by teaching rename/copy detection logic not to do any reordering, and rename-copy differentiator not to depend on the order of the patches. The diffs will leave rename/copy detector in the same destination path order as the patch that was fed into it. Some test vectors have been reordered to accommodate this change. It also adds a sanity check logic to the human-readable diff-raw output to detect paths with embedded TAB and LF characters, which cannot be expressed with that format. This idea came up during a discussion with Chris Wedgwood. Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-05-23[PATCH] Fix diff-pruning logic which was running prune too early.Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-4/+3
For later stages to reorder patches, pruning logic and rename detection logic should not decide which delete to discard (because another entry said it will take over the file as a rename) until the very end. Also fix some tests that were assuming the earlier "last one is rename or keep everything else is copy" semantics of diff-raw format, which no longer is true. 2005-05-23[PATCH] diff-raw format update take #2.Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-12/+112
This changes the diff-raw format again, following the mailing list discussion. The new format explicitly expresses which one is a rename and which one is a copy. The documentation and tests are updated to match this change. Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-05-23[PATCH] Rename/copy detection fix.Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-0/+82
The rename/copy detection logic in earlier round was only good enough to show patch output and discussion on the mailing list about the diff-raw format updates revealed many problems with it. This patch fixes all the ones known to me, without making things I want to do later impossible, mostly related to patch reordering. (1) Earlier rename/copy detector determined which one is rename and which one is copy too early, which made it impossible to later introduce diffcore transformers to reorder patches. This patch fixes it by moving that logic to the very end of the processing. (2) Earlier output routine diff_flush() was pruning all the "no-change" entries indiscriminatingly. This was done due to my false assumption that one of the requirements in the diff-raw output was not to show such an entry (which resulted in my incorrect comment about "diff-helper never being able to be equivalent to built-in diff driver"). My special thanks go to Linus for correcting me about this. When we produce diff-raw output, for the downstream to be able to tell renames from copies, sometimes it _is_ necessary to output "no-change" entries, and this patch adds diffcore_prune() function for doing it. (3) Earlier diff_filepair structure was trying to be not too specific about rename/copy operations, but the purpose of the structure was to record one or two paths, which _was_ indeed about rename/copy. This patch discards xfrm_msg field which was trying to be generic for this wrong reason, and introduces a couple of fields (rename_score and rename_rank) that are explicitly specific to rename/copy logic. One thing to note is that the information in a single diff_filepair structure _still_ does not distinguish renames from copies, and it is deliberately so. This is to allow patches to be reordered in later stages. (4) This patch also adds some tests about diff-raw format output and makes sure that necessary "no-change" entries appear on the output.
