2021-12-13tests: apply modern idiom for signaling test failureLibravatar Eric Sunshine1-1/+1
Simplify the way these tests signal failure by employing the modern idiom of making the `if` or `case` statement resolve to false when an error is detected. 2021-11-01leak tests: mark some update-index tests as passing with SANITIZE=leakLibravatar Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason1-0/+1
Mark some tests that match "*update-index*" as passing when git is compiled with SANITIZE=leak. They'll now be listed as running under the "GIT_TEST_PASSING_SANITIZE_LEAK=true" test mode (the "linux-leaks" CI target). 2015-12-27t/t2102-update-index-symlinks.sh: use the $( ... ) construct for command ↵Libravatar Elia Pinto1-1/+1
substitution The Git CodingGuidelines prefer the $(...) construct for command substitution instead of using the backquotes `...`. The backquoted form is the traditional method for command substitution, and is supported by POSIX. However, all but the simplest uses become complicated quickly. In particular, embedded command substitutions and/or the use of double quotes require careful escaping with the backslash character. The patch was generated by: for _f in $(find . -name "*.sh") do perl -i -pe 'BEGIN{undef $/;} s/`(.+?)`/\$(\1)/smg' "${_f}" done and then carefully proof-read. 2010-06-25tests: Say "pass" rather than "ok" on empty lines for TAPLibravatar Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason1-1/+1
Lines that begin with "ok" confuse the TAP harness because it can't distinguish them from a test counter. Work around the issue by saying "pass" instead, which isn't a reserved TAP word. Signed-off-by: Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason <avarab@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2008-10-31Avoid using non-portable `echo -n` in tests.Libravatar Brian Gernhardt1-2/+2
Expecting echo to recognise -n is a BSDism. Using printf is far more portable. Discovered on OS X 10.5.5 in t4030-diff-textconv.sh and changed in all the test scripts. Signed-off-by: Brian Gernhardt <benji@silverinsanity.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>

2007-03-02Add core.symlinks to mark filesystems that do not support symbolic links.Libravatar Johannes Sixt1-0/+31
Some file systems that can host git repositories and their working copies do not support symbolic links. But then if the repository contains a symbolic link, it is impossible to check out the working copy. This patch enables partial support of symbolic links so that it is possible to check out a working copy on such a file system. A new flag core.symlinks (which is true by default) can be set to false to indicate that the filesystem does not support symbolic links. In this case, symbolic links that exist in the trees are checked out as small plain files, and checking in modifications of these files preserve the symlink property in the database (as long as an entry exists in the index). Of course, this does not magically make symbolic links work on such defective file systems; hence, this solution does not help if the working copy relies on that an entry is a real symbolic link.
