2019-11-23tests: add 'test_bool_env' to catch non-bool GIT_TEST_* valuesLibravatar SZEDER Gábor1-2/+2
Since 3b072c577b (tests: replace test_tristate with "git env--helper", 2019-06-21) we get the normalized bool values of various GIT_TEST_* environment variables via 'git env--helper'. Now, while the 'git env--helper' command itself does catch invalid values in the environment variable or in the given --default and exits with error (exit code 128 or 129, respectively), it's invoked in conditions like 'if ! git env--helper ...', which means that all invalid bool values are interpreted the same as the ordinary 'false' (exit code 1). This has led to inadvertently skipped httpd tests in our CI builds for a couple of weeks, see 3960290675 (ci: restore running httpd tests, 2019-09-06). Let's be more careful about what the test suite accepts as bool values in GIT_TEST_* environment variables, and error out loud and clear on invalid values instead of simply skipping tests. Add the 'test_bool_env' helper function to encapsulate the invocation of 'git env--helper' and the verification of its exit code, and replace all invocations of that command in our test framework and test suite with a call to this new helper (except in 't0017-env-helper.sh', of course). $ GIT_TEST_GIT_DAEMON=YesPlease ./t5570-git-daemon.sh fatal: bad numeric config value 'YesPlease' for 'GIT_TEST_GIT_DAEMON': invalid unit error: test_bool_env requires bool values both for $GIT_TEST_GIT_DAEMON and for the default fallback Signed-off-by: SZEDER Gábor <szeder.dev@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2019-09-06t/lib-git-svn.sh: check GIT_TEST_SVN_HTTPD when running SVN HTTP testsLibravatar SZEDER Gábor1-1/+1
Once upon a time the GIT_SVN_TEST_HTTPD environment variable needed to be set to enable SVN HTTP tests [1]. Then 3b072c577b (tests: replace test_tristate with "git env--helper", 2019-06-21) came along, and attempted to turn GIT_SVN_TEST_HTTPD into a bool, but while doing so it mistyped the variable name, and started to check GIT_TEST_HTTPD instead. Consequently, if someone explicitly set GIT_TEST_HTTPD to true and has only the general 'git-svn' dependencies installed but not the Subversion server modules for Apache (libapache2-mod-svn), then a couple of 'git-svn' tests fail, because they can't start httpd due to the missing module. We could simply fix this by checking the GIT_SVN_TEST_HTTPD variablewith 'git env--helper', but notice that the name of this variable doesn't conform to our usual GIT_TEST_* convention. So let's check the GIT_TEST_SVN_HTTPD instead. 2019-06-21tests: replace test_tristate with "git env--helper"Libravatar Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason1-7/+4
The test_tristate helper introduced in 83d842dc8c ("tests: turn on network daemon tests by default", 2014-02-10) can now be better implemented with "git env--helper" to give the variables in question the standard boolean behavior. The reason for the "tristate" was to have all of false/true/auto, where "auto" meant either "false" or "true" depending on what the fallback was. With the --default option to "git env--helper" we can simply have e.g. GIT_TEST_HTTPD where we know if it's true because the user asked explicitly ("true"), or true implicitly ("auto"). This breaks backwards compatibility for explicitly setting "auto" for these variables, but I don't think anyone cares. That was always intended to be internal. This means the test_normalize_bool() code in test-lib-functions.sh goes away in addition to test_tristate(). We still need the test_skip_or_die() helper, but now it takes the variable name instead of the value, and uses "git env--bool" to distinguish a default "true" from an explicit "true" (in those "explicit true" cases we want to fail the test in question). 2019-01-07test-lib-functions: introduce the 'test_set_port' helper functionLibravatar SZEDER Gábor1-1/+1
Several test scripts run daemons like 'git-daemon' or Apache, and communicate with them through TCP sockets. To have unique ports where these daemons are accessible, the ports are usually the number of the corresponding test scripts, unless the user overrides them via environment variables, and thus all those tests and test libs contain more or less the same bit of one-liner boilerplate code to find out the port. The last patch in this series will make this a bit more complicated. Factor out finding the port for a daemon into the common helper function 'test_set_port' to avoid repeating ourselves. Take special care of test scripts with "low" numbers: - Test numbers below 1024 would result in a port that's only usable as root, so set their port to '10000 + test-nr' to make sure it doesn't interfere with other tests in the test suite. This makes the hardcoded port number in 't0410-partial-clone.sh' unnecessary, remove it. - The shell's arithmetic evaluation interprets numbers with leading zeros as octal values, which means that test number below 1000 and containing the digits 8 or 9 will trigger an error. Remove all leading zeros from the test numbers to prevent this. Note that the 'git p4' tests are unlike the other tests involving daemons in that: - 'lib-git-p4.sh' doesn't use the test's number for unique port as is, but does a bit of additional arithmetic on top [1]. - The port is not overridable via an environment variable. With this patch even 'git p4' tests will use the test's number as default port, and it will be overridable via the P4DPORT environment variable. [1] Commit fc00233071 (git-p4 tests: refactor and cleanup, 2011-08-22) introduced that "unusual" unique port computation without explaining why it was necessary (as opposed to simply using the test number as is). It seems to be just unnecessary complication, and in any case that commit came way before the "test nr as unique port" got "standardized" for other daemons in commits c44132fcf3 (tests: auto-set git-daemon port, 2014-02-10), 3bb486e439 (tests: auto-set LIB_HTTPD_PORT from test name, 2014-02-10), and bf9d7df950 (t/lib-git-svn.sh: improve svnserve tests with parallel make test, 2017-12-01). 2017-12-14t/lib-git-svn.sh: improve svnserve tests with parallel make testLibravatar Todd Zullinger1-2/+4
Setting SVNSERVE_PORT enables several tests which require a local svnserve daemon to be run (in t9113 & t9126). The tests share setup of the local svnserve via `start_svnserve()`. The function uses svnserve's `--listen-once` option, which causes svnserve to accept one connection on the port, serve it, and exit. When running the tests in parallel this fails if one test tries to start svnserve while the other is still running. Use the test number as the svnserve port (similar to httpd tests) to avoid port conflicts. Developers can set GIT_TEST_SVNSERVE to any value other than 'false' or 'auto' to enable these tests. Tests for "git svn" have been taught to reuse the lib-httpd test infrastructure when testing the subversion integration that interacts with subversion repositories served over the http:// protocol. * ew/git-svn-http-tests: git svn: migrate tests to use lib-httpd t/t91*: do not say how to avoid the tests
2016-07-25git svn: migrate tests to use lib-httpdLibravatar Eric Wong1-75/+16
This allows us to use common test infrastructure and parallelize the tests. For now, GIT_SVN_TEST_HTTPD=true needs to be set to enable the SVN HTTP tests because we reuse the same test cases for both file:// and http:// SVN repositories. SVN_HTTPD_PORT is no longer honored. Tested under Apache 2.2 and 2.4 on Debian 7.x (wheezy) and 8.x (jessie), respectively. 2016-05-13t/lib-git-svn: drop $remote_git_svn and $git_svn_idLibravatar Jeff King1-3/+0
These variables were added in 16805d3 (t/t91XX-svn: start removing use of "git-" from these tests, 2008-09-08) so that running: git grep git- would return fewer hits. At the time, we were transitioning away from the use of the "dashed" git-foo form. That transition has been over for years, and grepping for "git-" in the test suite yields thousands of hits anyway (all presumably false positives). With their original purpose gone, these variables serve only to obfuscate the tests. Let's get rid of them. Signed-off-by: Jeff King <peff@peff.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>

2013-10-29t: use perl instead of "$PERL_PATH" where applicableLibravatar Jeff King1-2/+2
As of the last commit, we can use "perl" instead of "$PERL_PATH" when running tests, as the former is now a function which uses the latter. As the shorter "perl" is easier on the eyes, let's switch to using it everywhere. This is not quite a mechanical s/$PERL_PATH/perl/ replacement, though. There are some places where we invoke perl from a script we generate on the fly, and those scripts do not have access to our internal shell functions. The result can be double-checked by running: ln -s /bin/false bin-wrappers/perl make test which continues to pass even after this patch. This library file is currently sourced by 57 test files, of which only four may (optionally) start a web-server in order to access the svn repo via an http url, rather than a file url. In addition to isolating the current web-server handling code from the majority of tests, in a new prepare_httpd function, we also add some more error checking and reporting code to validate the apache installation. Only those tests which attempt to start the web-server, by calling start_httpd, will execute this code. Note that it is important for start_httpd to return an error indication, if prepare_httpd fails, so that the failure to use the web-server, as requested by the user, should not go unnoticed. (Unless the svnrepo variable is set to an http url at the end of start_httpd, the remaining tests will use file urls, without comment.) 2010-08-11t/lib-git-svn.sh: use $PERL_PATH for perl, not perl from $PATHLibravatar Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason1-3/+2
Change the git-svn tests to use $PERL_PATH, not the "perl" in $PATH. Using perl in $PATH was added by Sam Vilain in v1.6.6-rc0~95^2~3, Philippe Bruhat introduced $PERL_PATH to the test suite in v1.6.6-rc0~9^2, but the lib-git-svn.sh tests weren't updated to use the new convention. This resulted in the git-svn tests always being skipped on my system. My /usr/bin/perl has access to SVN::Core and SVN::Repos, but the perl in my $PATH does not. I have tweaked configuration in my ~/.subversion directory, namely I am running auto-properties and automatically adding '$Id$' expansion to every file. This choke the last test named 'proplist' from t9101-git-svn-props.sh, because one more property, svn:keywords is automatically added. I had just wrapped svn invocation with the svn_cmd that specifies empty directory via --config-dir argument. Since the latter is the global option, it should be recognized by all svn subcommands, so no regressions will be introduced. Now svn_cmd is used everywhere, not just in the failed test module: this should guard us from the future clashes with user-defined configuration tweaks. 2007-12-10git-svn: replace .rev_db with a more space-efficient .rev_map formatLibravatar Eric Wong1-0/+26
Migrations are done automatically on an as-needed basis when new revisions are to be fetched. Stale remote branches do not get migrated, yet. However, unless you set noMetadata or useSvkProps it's safe to just do: find $GIT_DIR/svn -name '.rev_db*' -print0 | xargs rm -f to purge all the old .rev_db files. The new format is a one-way migration and is NOT compatible with old versions of git-svn. This is the replacement for the rev_db format, which was too big and inefficient for large repositories with a lot of sparse history (mainly tags). The format is this: - 24 bytes for every record, * 4 bytes for the integer representing an SVN revision number * 20 bytes representing the sha1 of a git commit - No empty padding records like the old format - new records are written append-only since SVN revision numbers increase monotonically - lookups on SVN revision number are done via a binary search - Piping the file to xxd(1) -c24 is a good way of dumping it for viewing or editing, should the need ever arise. As with .rev_db, these files are disposable unless noMetadata or useSvmProps is set. Signed-off-by: Eric Wong <normalperson@yhbt.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>

* Enable test for delta transfers in full-svn-test. * Run tests against the root of the repository so we won't have to revisit 308906fa6e98132cab839a4f42701386fba368ef and efe4631def181d32f932672a7ea31e52ee0ab308 again. The graft-branches test still runs as before. Signed-off-by: Eric Wong <normalperson@yhbt.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>

Allow NO_SVN_TESTS to be defined to skip git-svn tests. These tests are time-consuming due to SVN being slow, and even more so if SVN Perl libraries are not available. Signed-off-by: Eric Wong <normalperson@yhbt.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>
