2020-07-30strvec: rename struct fieldsLibravatar Jeff King1-3/+3
The "argc" and "argv" names made sense when the struct was argv_array, but now they're just confusing. Let's rename them to "nr" (which we use for counts elsewhere) and "v" (which is rather terse, but reads well when combined with typical variable names like "args.v"). Note that we have to update all of the callers immediately. Playing tricks with the preprocessor is hard here, because we wouldn't want to rewrite unrelated tokens. 2020-07-28strvec: convert more callers away from argv_array nameLibravatar Jeff King1-5/+5
We eventually want to drop the argv_array name and just use strvec consistently. There's no particular reason we have to do it all at once, or care about interactions between converted and unconverted bits. Because of our preprocessor compat layer, the names are interchangeable to the compiler (so even a definition and declaration using different names is OK). This patch converts remaining files from the first half of the alphabet, to keep the diff to a manageable size. The conversion was done purely mechanically with: git ls-files '*.c' '*.h' | xargs perl -i -pe ' s/ARGV_ARRAY/STRVEC/g; s/argv_array/strvec/g; ' and then selectively staging files with "git add '[abcdefghjkl]*'". We'll deal with any indentation/style fallouts separately. Signed-off-by: Jeff King <peff@peff.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2020-07-28strvec: rename files from argv-array to strvecLibravatar Jeff King1-1/+1
This requires updating #include lines across the code-base, but that's all fairly mechanical, and was done with: git ls-files '*.c' '*.h' | xargs perl -i -pe 's/argv-array.h/strvec.h/' Signed-off-by: Jeff King <peff@peff.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2019-02-22trace2: create new combined trace facilityLibravatar Jeff Hostetler1-0/+2
Create a new unified tracing facility for git. The eventual intent is to replace the current trace_printf* and trace_performance* routines with a unified set of git_trace2* routines. In addition to the usual printf-style API, trace2 provides higer-level event verbs with fixed-fields allowing structured data to be written. This makes post-processing and analysis easier for external tools. Trace2 defines 3 output targets. These are set using the environment variables "GIT_TR2", "GIT_TR2_PERF", and "GIT_TR2_EVENT". These may be set to "1" or to an absolute pathname (just like the current GIT_TRACE). * GIT_TR2 is intended to be a replacement for GIT_TRACE and logs command summary data. * GIT_TR2_PERF is intended as a replacement for GIT_TRACE_PERFORMANCE. It extends the output with columns for the command process, thread, repo, absolute and relative elapsed times. It reports events for child process start/stop, thread start/stop, and per-thread function nesting. * GIT_TR2_EVENT is a new structured format. It writes event data as a series of JSON records. Calls to trace2 functions log to any of the 3 output targets enabled without the need to call different trace_printf* or trace_performance* routines. 2018-05-08Merge branch 'dj/runtime-prefix'Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-29/+229
A build-time option has been added to allow Git to be told to refer to its associated files relative to the main binary, in the same way that has been possible on Windows for quite some time, for Linux, BSDs and Darwin. * dj/runtime-prefix: Makefile: quote $INSTLIBDIR when passing it to sed Makefile: remove unused @@PERLLIBDIR@@ substitution variable mingw/msvc: use the new-style RUNTIME_PREFIX helper exec_cmd: provide a new-style RUNTIME_PREFIX helper for Windows exec_cmd: RUNTIME_PREFIX on some POSIX systems Makefile: add Perl runtime prefix support Makefile: generate Perl header from template file
2018-04-11exec_cmd: rename to use dash in file nameLibravatar Stefan Beller1-0/+165
This is more consistent with the project style. The majority of Git's source files use dashes in preference to underscores in their file names. Signed-off-by: Stefan Beller <sbeller@google.com>
