2005-11-01Do not install backward compatibility links anymore.Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-4/+12
This is a companion patch to 4f9dcf7e5cf6c82455925102d315daf3b833e6d6 which stops mentioning the old command names. As promised, we do not install symlinks to let people use backward compatibility names anymore. cmd-rename.sh script is still shipped to help people who installed previous git by hand to clean up the leftover symlinks. 2005-09-30Still installing the old command names.Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-10/+4
After seeing Jeff's guide, I changed my mind about the big-rename transition plan. Even if Porcelains are kept up to date, those web documents that describes older world order would live longer and people will stumble across them via google searches. And who knows how many mirrored copies there are. The backward compatible symbolic links *will* be removed before 1.0. But that will not happen in 0.99.8. 2005-09-24Stop installing the backward compatible symlinks.Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-3/+6
Also cmd-renames.sh can now be used to remove the backward compatible symlinks -- this is not used by default in any way. As discussed on the list with Pasky, git-ssh-push and git-ssh-pull will keep calling each other for a while longer. Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>
2005-09-19[PATCH] Do not install compatibility symlink for what we do not installLibravatar Patrick Mauritz1-0/+2
We sometimes do not install git-send-email nor git-http-pull; do not unconditionally create symlinks to them. Signed-off-by: Patrick Mauritz <oxygene@studentenbude.ath.cx> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>
2005-09-15Be more backward compatible with git-ssh-{push,pull}.Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-2/+4
HPA reminded me that these programs knows about the name of the counterpart on the other end and simply symlinking the old name to new name locally would not be enough. Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>
2005-09-07Big tool rename.Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-0/+53
As promised, this is the "big tool rename" patch. The primary differences since 0.99.6 are: (1) git-*-script are no more. The commands installed do not have any such suffix so users do not have to remember if something is implemented as a shell script or not. (2) Many command names with 'cache' in them are renamed with 'index' if that is what they mean. There are backward compatibility symblic links so that you and Porcelains can keep using the old names, but the backward compatibility support is expected to be removed in the near future.
