2019-05-13verify-commit: simplify parameters to run_gpg_verify()Libravatar Jeff King1-15/+8
The buf/len parameters of run_gpg_verify() have never been used since the function was added in d07b00b7f3 (verify-commit: scriptable commit signature verification, 2014-06-23). Instead, check_commit_signature() accesses the commit struct directly. Worse, we read the whole object just to check its type and do not attach it to the "struct commit". Meaning we end up loading the object from disk twice for no good reason. And to further confuse matters, our type check is comes from what we read from disk, but we later assume that lookup_commit() will return non-NULL. This might not be true if some other object previously referenced the same oid as a non-commit (though this may be impossible to trigger in practice since we don't generally parse any other objects in this command). Instead, let's do our type check by loading the object via parse_object(). That will attach the buffer to the struct so it can be used later by check_commit_signature(). And it ensures that lookup_commit() will return something sane. And then we can just drop the unused "buf" and "len" parameters entirely. 2018-06-29commit: add repository argument to lookup_commitLibravatar Stefan Beller1-1/+3
Add a repository argument to allow callers of lookup_commit to be more specific about which repository to handle. This is a small mechanical change; it doesn't change the implementation to handle repositories other than the_repository yet. As with the previous commits, use a macro to catch callers passing a repository other than the_repository at compile time. 2018-05-16object-store: move object access functions to object-store.hLibravatar Stefan Beller1-0/+1
This should make these functions easier to find and cache.h less overwhelming to read. In particular, this moves: - read_object_file - oid_object_info - write_object_file As a result, most of the codebase needs to #include object-store.h. In this patch the #include is only added to files that would fail to compile otherwise. It would be better to #include wherever identifiers from the header are used. That can happen later when we have better tooling for it. Signed-off-by: Stefan Beller <sbeller@google.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2018-03-14sha1_file: convert read_sha1_file to struct object_idLibravatar brian m. carlson1-1/+1
Convert read_sha1_file to take a pointer to struct object_id and rename it read_object_file. Do the same for read_sha1_file_extended. Convert one use in grep.c to use the new function without any other code change, since the pointer being passed is a void pointer that is already initialized with a pointer to struct object_id. Update the declaration and definitions of the modified functions, and apply the following semantic patch to convert the remaining callers: @@ expression E1, E2, E3; @@ - read_sha1_file(E1.hash, E2, E3) + read_object_file(&E1, E2, E3) @@ expression E1, E2, E3; @@ - read_sha1_file(E1->hash, E2, E3) + read_object_file(E1, E2, E3) @@ expression E1, E2, E3, E4; @@ - read_sha1_file_extended(E1.hash, E2, E3, E4) + read_object_file_extended(&E1, E2, E3, E4) @@ expression E1, E2, E3, E4; @@ - read_sha1_file_extended(E1->hash, E2, E3, E4) + read_object_file_extended(E1, E2, E3, E4) Signed-off-by: brian m. carlson <sandals@crustytoothpaste.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2018-02-14object: rename function 'typename' to 'type_name'Libravatar Brandon Williams1-1/+1

2017-06-24Merge branch 'bw/config-h'Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-0/+1
Fix configuration codepath to pay proper attention to commondir that is used in multi-worktree situation, and isolate config API into its own header file. * bw/config-h: config: don't implicitly use gitdir or commondir config: respect commondir setup: teach discover_git_directory to respect the commondir config: don't include config.h by default config: remove git_config_iter config: create config.h
2017-06-15config: don't include config.h by defaultLibravatar Brandon Williams1-0/+1
Stop including config.h by default in cache.h. Instead only include config.h in those files which require use of the config system. Signed-off-by: Brandon Williams <bmwill@google.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2017-05-08Convert lookup_commit* to struct object_idLibravatar brian m. carlson1-1/+1
Convert lookup_commit, lookup_commit_or_die, lookup_commit_reference, and lookup_commit_reference_gently to take struct object_id arguments. Introduce a temporary in parse_object buffer in order to convert this function. This is required since in order to convert parse_object and parse_object_buffer, lookup_commit_reference_gently and lookup_commit_or_die would need to be converted. Not introducing a temporary would therefore require that lookup_commit_or_die take a struct object_id *, but lookup_commit would take unsigned char *, leaving a confusing and hard-to-use interface. parse_object_buffer will lose this temporary in a later patch. This commit was created with manual changes to commit.c, commit.h, and object.c, plus the following semantic patch: @@ expression E1, E2; @@ - lookup_commit_reference_gently(E1.hash, E2) + lookup_commit_reference_gently(&E1, E2) @@ expression E1, E2; @@ - lookup_commit_reference_gently(E1->hash, E2) + lookup_commit_reference_gently(E1, E2) @@ expression E1; @@ - lookup_commit_reference(E1.hash) + lookup_commit_reference(&E1) @@ expression E1; @@ - lookup_commit_reference(E1->hash) + lookup_commit_reference(E1) @@ expression E1; @@ - lookup_commit(E1.hash) + lookup_commit(&E1) @@ expression E1; @@ - lookup_commit(E1->hash) + lookup_commit(E1) @@ expression E1, E2; @@ - lookup_commit_or_die(E1.hash, E2) + lookup_commit_or_die(&E1, E2) @@ expression E1, E2; @@ - lookup_commit_or_die(E1->hash, E2) + lookup_commit_or_die(E1, E2) Signed-off-by: brian m. carlson <sandals@crustytoothpaste.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>

2015-06-22verify-commit: add option to print raw gpg status informationLibravatar brian m. carlson1-5/+10
verify-commit by default displays human-readable output on standard error. However, it can also be useful to get access to the raw gpg status information, which is machine-readable, allowing automated implementation of signing policy. Add a --raw option to make verify-commit produce the gpg status information on standard error instead of the human-readable format. 2015-06-22gpg: centralize printing signature buffersLibravatar brian m. carlson1-6/+1
The code to handle printing of signature data from a struct signature_check is very similar between verify-commit and verify-tag. Place this in a single function. verify-tag retains its special case behavior of printing the tag even when no valid signature is found. 2015-06-22gpg: centralize signature checkLibravatar brian m. carlson1-2/+3
verify-commit and verify-tag both share a central codepath for verifying commits: check_signature. However, verify-tag exited successfully for untrusted signature, while verify-commit exited unsuccessfully. Centralize this signature check and make verify-commit adopt the older verify-tag behavior. This behavior is more logical anyway, as the signature is in fact valid, whether or not there's a path of trust to the author. 2015-01-14standardize usage info string formatLibravatar Alex Henrie1-1/+1
This patch puts the usage info strings that were not already in docopt- like format into docopt-like format, which will be a litle easier for end users and a lot easier for translators. Changes include: - Placing angle brackets around fill-in-the-blank parameters - Putting dashes in multiword parameter names - Adding spaces to [-f|--foobar] to make [-f | --foobar] - Replacing <foobar>* with [<foobar>...] Signed-off-by: Alex Henrie <alexhenrie24@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: Matthieu Moy <Matthieu.Moy@imag.fr> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2014-06-23verify-commit: scriptable commit signature verificationLibravatar Michael J Gruber1-0/+93
Commit signatures can be verified using "git show -s --show-signature" or the "%G?" pretty format and parsing the output, which is well suited for user inspection, but not for scripting. Provide a command "verify-commit" which is analogous to "verify-tag": It returns 0 for good signatures and non-zero otherwise, has the gpg output on stderr and (optionally) the commit object on stdout, sans the signature, just like "verify-tag" does.
