2020-07-30strvec: rename struct fieldsLibravatar Jeff King1-1/+1
The "argc" and "argv" names made sense when the struct was argv_array, but now they're just confusing. Let's rename them to "nr" (which we use for counts elsewhere) and "v" (which is rather terse, but reads well when combined with typical variable names like "args.v"). Note that we have to update all of the callers immediately. Playing tricks with the preprocessor is hard here, because we wouldn't want to rewrite unrelated tokens. 2020-07-28strvec: convert builtin/ callers away from argv_array nameLibravatar Jeff King1-8/+8
We eventually want to drop the argv_array name and just use strvec consistently. There's no particular reason we have to do it all at once, or care about interactions between converted and unconverted bits. Because of our preprocessor compat layer, the names are interchangeable to the compiler (so even a definition and declaration using different names is OK). This patch converts all of the files in builtin/ to keep the diff to a manageable size. The conversion was done purely mechanically with: git ls-files '*.c' '*.h' | xargs perl -i -pe ' s/ARGV_ARRAY/STRVEC/g; s/argv_array/strvec/g; ' and then selectively staging files with "git add builtin/". We'll deal with any indentation/style fallouts separately. Signed-off-by: Jeff King <peff@peff.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2020-01-31sha1-file: pass git_hash_algo to hash_object_file()Libravatar Matheus Tavares1-1/+2
Allow hash_object_file() to work on arbitrary repos by introducing a git_hash_algo parameter. Change callers which have a struct repository pointer in their scope to pass on the git_hash_algo from the said repo. For all other callers, pass on the_hash_algo, which was already being used internally at hash_object_file(). This functionality will be used in the following patch to make check_object_signature() be able to work on arbitrary repos (which, in turn, will be used to fix an inconsistency at object.c:parse_object()). 2019-05-09Merge branch 'cc/replace-graft-peel-tags'Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-7/+13
When given a tag that points at a commit-ish, "git replace --graft" failed to peel the tag before writing a replace ref, which did not make sense because the old graft mechanism the feature wants to mimick only allowed to replace one commit object with another. This has been fixed. * cc/replace-graft-peel-tags: replace: peel tag when passing a tag first to --graft replace: peel tag when passing a tag as parent to --graft t6050: redirect expected error output to a file t6050: use test_line_count instead of wc -l
2019-04-15replace: peel tag when passing a tag first to --graftLibravatar Christian Couder1-4/+7
When passing a tag as the first argument to `git replace --graft`, it can be useful to accept it and use the underlying commit as a the commit that will be replaced. This already works for lightweight tags, but unfortunately for annotated tags we have been using the hash of the tag object instead of the hash of the underlying commit. Especially we would pass the hash of the tag object to replace_object_oid() where we would likely fail with an error like: "error: Objects must be of the same type. 'annotated_replaced_object' points to a replaced object of type 'tag' while 'replacement' points to a replacement object of type 'commit'." This patch fixes that by using the hash of the underlying commit when an annotated tag is passed. 2019-04-15replace: peel tag when passing a tag as parent to --graftLibravatar Christian Couder1-3/+6
When passing a tag as a parent argument to `git replace --graft`, it can be useful to accept it and use the underlying commit as a parent. This already works for lightweight tags, but unfortunately for annotated tags we have been using the hash of the tag object instead of the hash of the underlying commit as a parent in the replacement object we create. This created invalid objects, but the replace succeeded even if it showed an error like: error: object A is a tag, not a commit This patch fixes that by using the hash of the underlying commit when an annotated tag is passed. While at it, let's also update an error message to make it clearer. 2018-08-29convert "oidcmp() == 0" to oideq()Libravatar Jeff King1-3/+3
Using the more restrictive oideq() should, in the long run, give the compiler more opportunities to optimize these callsites. For now, this conversion should be a complete noop with respect to the generated code. The result is also perhaps a little more readable, as it avoids the "zero is equal" idiom. Since it's so prevalent in C, I think seasoned programmers tend not to even notice it anymore, but it can sometimes make for awkward double negations (e.g., we can drop a few !!oidcmp() instances here). This patch was generated almost entirely by the included coccinelle patch. This mechanical conversion should be completely safe, because we check explicitly for cases where oidcmp() is compared to 0, which is what oideq() is doing under the hood. Note that we don't have to catch "!oidcmp()" separately; coccinelle's standard isomorphisms make sure the two are treated equivalently. I say "almost" because I did hand-edit the coccinelle output to fix up a few style violations (it mostly keeps the original formatting, but sometimes unwraps long lines). Changes are - keep the first letter of die(), error() and warning() in lowercase - no full stop in die(), error() or warning() if it's single sentence messages - indentation - some messages are turned to BUG(), or prefixed with "BUG:" and will not be marked for i18n - some messages are improved to give more information - some messages are broken down by sentence to be i18n friendly (on the same token, combine multiple warning() into one big string) - the trailing \n is converted to printf_ln if possible, or deleted if not redundant - errno_errno() is used instead of explicit strerror() Signed-off-by: Nguyễn Thái Ngọc Duy <pclouds@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>

When converting all grafts in a graft file to replace refs, and one of them happens to leave the original commit's parents unchanged, we do not want to error out. This is yet another patch to be filed under the keyword "libification". There is one subtle change in behavior here, where a `git log` that has been asked to show the mergetags would now stop reporting the mergetags upon the first failure, whereas previously, it would have continued to the next mergetag, if any. In practice, that change should not matter, as it is 1) uncommon to perform octopus merges using multiple tags as merge heads, and 2) when the user asks to be shown those tags, they really should be there. Even though it is not a goal to compile Git with C++ compilers, changes like this help use of code analysis tools that targets C++ on our codebase. * bw/c-plus-plus: (37 commits) replace: rename 'new' variables trailer: rename 'template' variables tempfile: rename 'template' variables wrapper: rename 'template' variables environment: rename 'namespace' variables diff: rename 'template' variables environment: rename 'template' variables init-db: rename 'template' variables unpack-trees: rename 'new' variables trailer: rename 'new' variables submodule: rename 'new' variables split-index: rename 'new' variables remote: rename 'new' variables ref-filter: rename 'new' variables read-cache: rename 'new' variables line-log: rename 'new' variables imap-send: rename 'new' variables http: rename 'new' variables entry: rename 'new' variables diffcore-delta: rename 'new' variables ...
2018-02-22replace: rename 'new' variablesLibravatar Brandon Williams1-17/+17
Rename C++ keyword in order to bring the codebase closer to being able to be compiled with a C++ compiler. Signed-off-by: Brandon Williams <bmwill@google.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>

2018-01-30sha1_file: convert write_sha1_file to object_idLibravatar Patryk Obara1-1/+1
Convert the definition and declaration of write_sha1_file to struct object_id and adjust usage of this function. This commit also converts static function write_sha1_file_prepare, as it is closely related. Rename these functions to write_object_file and write_object_file_prepare respectively. Replace sha1_to_hex, hashcpy and hashclr with their oid equivalents wherever possible. Signed-off-by: Patryk Obara <patryk.obara@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2018-01-30sha1_file: convert hash_sha1_file to object_idLibravatar Patryk Obara1-1/+1
Convert the declaration and definition of hash_sha1_file to use struct object_id and adjust all function calls. Rename this function to hash_object_file. Signed-off-by: Patryk Obara <patryk.obara@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2017-10-16refs: convert read_ref and read_ref_full to object_idLibravatar brian m. carlson1-2/+2
All but two of the call sites already have parameters using the hash parameter of struct object_id, so convert them to take a pointer to the struct directly. Also convert refs_read_refs_full, the underlying implementation. Signed-off-by: brian m. carlson <sandals@crustytoothpaste.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2017-10-16refs: update ref transactions to use struct object_idLibravatar brian m. carlson1-1/+1
Update the ref transaction code to use struct object_id. Remove one NULL pointer check which was previously inserted around a dereference; since we now pass a pointer to struct object_id directly through, the code we're calling handles this for us. 2017-10-16refs: convert delete_ref and refs_delete_ref to struct object_idLibravatar brian m. carlson1-1/+1
Convert delete_ref and refs_delete_ref to take a pointer to struct object_id. Update the documentation accordingly, including referring to null_oid in lowercase, as it is not a #define constant.
