2021-06-09builtins + test helpers: use return instead of exit() in cmd_*Libravatar Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason1-1/+1
Change various cmd_* functions that claim to return an "int" to use "return" instead of exit() to indicate an exit code. These were not marked with NORETURN, and by directly exit()-ing we'll skip the cleanup git.c would otherwise do (e.g. closing fd's, erroring if we can't). See run_builtin() in git.c. In the case of shell.c and sh-i18n--envsubst.c this was the result of an incomplete migration to using a cmd_main() in 3f2e2297b9 (add an extra level of indirection to main(), 2016-07-01). This was spotted by SunCC 12.5 on Solaris 10 (gcc210 on the gccfarm). Signed-off-by: Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason <avarab@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2019-05-13mktree: drop unused length parameterLibravatar Jeff King1-2/+2
The mktree_line() function does not actually look at the "len" parameter it is passed, and assumes the buffer it receives is NUL-terminated. Since the caller always passes a strbuf, this will be true. Let's drop the useless parameter. Signed-off-by: Jeff King <peff@peff.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2018-10-15builtin/mktree: remove hard-coded constantLibravatar brian m. carlson1-1/+1
Instead of using a hard-coded constant for the size of a hex object ID, switch to use the computed pointer from parse_oid_hex that points after the parsed object ID. Signed-off-by: brian m. carlson <sandals@crustytoothpaste.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2018-05-16object-store: move object access functions to object-store.hLibravatar Stefan Beller1-0/+1
This should make these functions easier to find and cache.h less overwhelming to read. In particular, this moves: - read_object_file - oid_object_info - write_object_file As a result, most of the codebase needs to #include object-store.h. In this patch the #include is only added to files that would fail to compile otherwise. It would be better to #include wherever identifiers from the header are used. That can happen later when we have better tooling for it. Signed-off-by: Stefan Beller <sbeller@google.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2018-04-26cache.h: add repository argument to oid_object_infoLibravatar Stefan Beller1-1/+1
Add a repository argument to allow the callers of oid_object_info to be more specific about which repository to handle. This is a small mechanical change; it doesn't change the implementation to handle repositories other than the_repository yet. As with the previous commits, use a macro to catch callers passing a repository other than the_repository at compile time. 2018-03-14sha1_file: convert sha1_object_info* to object_idLibravatar brian m. carlson1-1/+1
Convert sha1_object_info and sha1_object_info_extended to take pointers to struct object_id and rename them to use "oid" instead of "sha1" in their names. Update the declaration and definition and apply the following semantic patch, plus the standard object_id transforms: @@ expression E1, E2; @@ - sha1_object_info(E1.hash, E2) + oid_object_info(&E1, E2) @@ expression E1, E2; @@ - sha1_object_info(E1->hash, E2) + oid_object_info(E1, E2) @@ expression E1, E2, E3; @@ - sha1_object_info_extended(E1.hash, E2, E3) + oid_object_info_extended(&E1, E2, E3) @@ expression E1, E2, E3; @@ - sha1_object_info_extended(E1->hash, E2, E3) + oid_object_info_extended(E1, E2, E3) Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2018-03-14builtin/mktree: convert to struct object_idLibravatar brian m. carlson1-12/+12
Convert this file to use struct object_id. Modify one use of get_sha1_hex into parse_oid_hex; this is safe since we get the data from a strbuf. Signed-off-by: brian m. carlson <sandals@crustytoothpaste.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>

2018-01-30sha1_file: convert write_sha1_file to object_idLibravatar Patryk Obara1-5/+5
Convert the definition and declaration of write_sha1_file to struct object_id and adjust usage of this function. This commit also converts static function write_sha1_file_prepare, as it is closely related. Rename these functions to write_object_file and write_object_file_prepare respectively. Replace sha1_to_hex, hashcpy and hashclr with their oid equivalents wherever possible. Signed-off-by: Patryk Obara <patryk.obara@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>

2016-02-22convert trivial cases to FLEX_ARRAY macrosLibravatar Jeff King1-4/+5
Using FLEX_ARRAY macros reduces the amount of manual computation size we have to do. It also ensures we don't overflow size_t, and it makes sure we write the same number of bytes that we allocated. Signed-off-by: Jeff King <peff@peff.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2016-01-15mktree: there are only two possible line terminationsLibravatar Junio C Hamano1-6/+8
The program by default reads LF terminated lines, with an option to use NUL terminated records. Instead of pretending that there can be other useful values for line_termination, use a boolean variable, nul_term_line, to tell if NUL terminated records are used, and switch between strbuf_getline_{lf,nul} based on it. 2010-02-22Move 'builtin-*' into a 'builtin/' subdirectoryLibravatar Linus Torvalds1-0/+190
This shrinks the top-level directory a bit, and makes it much more pleasant to use auto-completion on the thing. Instead of [torvalds@nehalem git]$ em buil<tab> Display all 180 possibilities? (y or n) [torvalds@nehalem git]$ em builtin-sh builtin-shortlog.c builtin-show-branch.c builtin-show-ref.c builtin-shortlog.o builtin-show-branch.o builtin-show-ref.o [torvalds@nehalem git]$ em builtin-shor<tab> builtin-shortlog.c builtin-shortlog.o [torvalds@nehalem git]$ em builtin-shortlog.c you get [torvalds@nehalem git]$ em buil<tab> [type] builtin/ builtin.h [torvalds@nehalem git]$ em builtin [auto-completes to] [torvalds@nehalem git]$ em builtin/sh<tab> [type] shortlog.c shortlog.o show-branch.c show-branch.o show-ref.c show-ref.o [torvalds@nehalem git]$ em builtin/sho [auto-completes to] [torvalds@nehalem git]$ em builtin/shor<tab> [type] shortlog.c shortlog.o [torvalds@nehalem git]$ em builtin/shortlog.c which doesn't seem all that different, but not having that annoying break in "Display all 180 possibilities?" is quite a relief. NOTE! If you do this in a clean tree (no object files etc), or using an editor that has auto-completion rules that ignores '*.o' files, you won't see that annoying 'Display all 180 possibilities?' message - it will just show the choices instead. I think bash has some cut-off around 100 choices or something. So the reason I see this is that I'm using an odd editory, and thus don't have the rules to cut down on auto-completion. But you can simulate that by using 'ls' instead, or something similar. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
