2013-02-01Documentation: avoid poor-man's small caps GITLibravatar Thomas Ackermann1-2/+2
In the earlier days, we used to spell the name of the system as GIT, to simulate as if it were typeset with capital G and IT in small caps. Later we stopped doing so at around 1.6.5 days. Let's stop doing so throughout the documentation. The name to refer to the whole system (and the concept it embodies) is "Git"; the command end-users type is "git". And document this in the coding guideline. Signed-off-by: Thomas Ackermann <th.acker@arcor.de> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>

2008-04-18Document that WebDAV doesn't need git on the server, and works over SSLLibravatar Matthieu Moy1-12/+33
I managed to set up a Git repository on a preconfigured WebDAV server, and using HTTPS, without installing Git on it or changing the server configuration. This works through a proxy too. This patch reflects this (it previously stated that Git was _necessary_ on the server, which isn't true). Also give a few hints to troubleshoting. 2007-01-12use 'init' instead of 'init-db' for shipped docs and toolsLibravatar Nicolas Pitre1-1/+1
While 'init-db' still is and probably will always remain a valid git command for obvious backward compatibility reasons, it would be a good idea to move shipped tools and docs to using 'init' instead. Signed-off-by: Nicolas Pitre <nico@cam.org> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>
