2009-10-13git: add --no-replace-objects option to disable replacingLibravatar Christian Couder1-1/+5
Commit dae556b (environment: add global variable to disable replacement) adds a variable to enable/disable replacement, and it is enabled by default for most commands. So there is no way to disable it for some commands, which is annoying when we want to get information about a commit that has been replaced. For example: $ git cat-file -p N would output information about the replacement commit if commit N is replaced. With the "--no-replace-objects" option that this patch adds it is possible to get information about the original commit using: $ git --no-replace-objects cat-file -p N While at it, let's add some documentation about this new option in the "git replace" man page too. 2009-08-12Change mentions of "git programs" to "git commands"Libravatar Ori Avtalion1-1/+1
Most of the docs and printouts refer to "commands" when discussing what the end users call via the "git" top-level program. We should refer them as "git programs" when we discuss the fact that the commands are implemented as separate programs, but in other contexts, it is better to use the term "git commands" consistently. 2008-07-05manpages: use teletype font for sample command linesLibravatar Jonathan Nieder1-2/+2

2008-07-05manpages: italicize nongit command names (if they are in teletype font)Libravatar Jonathan Nieder1-1/+1
Some manual pages use teletype font to set command names. We change them to use italics, instead. This creates a visual distinction between names of commands and command lines that can be typed at the command line. It is also more consistent with other man pages outside Git. In this patch, the commands named are non-git commands like bash. Signed-off-by: Jonathan Nieder <jrnieder@uchicago.edu> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2008-07-05manpages: italicize git command names (which were in teletype font)Libravatar Jonathan Nieder1-4/+4
The names of git commands are not meant to be entered at the commandline; they are just names. So we render them in italics, as is usual for command names in manpages. Using doit () { perl -e 'for (<>) { s/\`(git-[^\`.]*)\`/'\''\1'\''/g; print }' } for i in git*.txt config.txt diff*.txt blame*.txt fetch*.txt i18n.txt \ merge*.txt pretty*.txt pull*.txt rev*.txt urls*.txt do doit <"$i" >"$i+" && mv "$i+" "$i" done git diff .
