2008-06-06documentation: move git(7) to git(1)Libravatar Christian Couder1-1/+1
As the "git" man page describes the "git" command at the end-user level, it seems better to move it to man section 1. Signed-off-by: Christian Couder <chriscool@tuxfamily.org> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2008-01-14Fix git-rerere documentationLibravatar Junio C Hamano1-0/+4
rerere.enabled is _not_ on by default. The command is enabled if rr-cache exists even when rerere.enabled is missing, and enabled or disabled by explicitly setting the rerere.enabled variable.
2008-01-06Documentation: rename gitlink macro to linkgitLibravatar Dan McGee1-2/+2
Between AsciiDoc 8.2.2 and 8.2.3, the following change was made to the stock Asciidoc configuration: @@ -149,7 +153,10 @@ # Inline macros. # Backslash prefix required for escape processing. # (?s) re flag for line spanning. -(?su)[\\]?(?P<name>\w(\w|-)*?):(?P<target>\S*?)(\[(?P<attrlist>.*?)\])= + +# Explicit so they can be nested. +(?su)[\\]?(?P<name>(http|https|ftp|file|mailto|callto|image|link)):(?P<target>\S*?)(\[(?P<attrlist>.*?)\])= + # Anchor: [[[id]]]. Bibliographic anchor. (?su)[\\]?\[\[\[(?P<attrlist>[\w][\w-]*?)\]\]\]=anchor3 # Anchor: [[id,xreflabel]] This default regex now matches explicit values, and unfortunately in this case gitlink was being matched by just 'link', causing the wrong inline macro template to be applied. By renaming the macro, we can avoid being matched by the wrong regex. Signed-off-by: Dan McGee <dpmcgee@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>

2007-07-06Enable "git rerere" by the config variable rerere.enabledLibravatar Johannes Schindelin1-2/+2
Earlier, "git rerere" was enabled by creating the directory .git/rr-cache. That is definitely not in line with most other features, which are enabled by a config variable. So, check the config variable "rerere.enabled". If it is set to "false" explicitely, do not activate rerere, even if .git/rr-cache exists. This should help when you want to disable rerere temporarily. If "rerere.enabled" is not set at all, fall back to detection of the directory .git/rr-cache. 2007-02-17Convert update-index references in docs to add.Libravatar Shawn O. Pearce1-2/+1
Since `git add` is the approved porcelain for an end-user to invoke when they want to manipulate the index, porcelain documentation should steer the user to this command rather than the pure plumbing update-index. 2007-01-14some doc updatesLibravatar Nicolas Pitre1-5/+5
1) talk about "git merge" instead of "git pull ." 2) suggest "git repo-config" instead of directly editing config files 3) echo "URL: blah" > .git/remotes/foo is obsolete and should be "git repo-config remote.foo.url blah" 4) support for partial URL prefix has been removed (see commit ea560e6d64374ec1f6c163c276319a3da21a1345) so drop mention of it. 2006-12-27rerere gc: honor configuration and document itLibravatar Junio C Hamano1-2/+6

2006-12-09git-rerere: add 'gc' command.Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-24/+32
Over time, unresolved rr-cache entries are accumulated and they tend to get less and less likely to be useful as the tips of branches advance. Reorder documentation page to show the subcommand section earlier than the discussion section. Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>
2006-12-09rerere: add clear, diff, and status commandsLibravatar Eric Wong1-2/+25
git-am and git-rebase will be updated to use 'clear', and diff/status can be used to aid the user in tracking progress in the resolution process. Signed-off-by: Eric Wong <normalperson@yhbt.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>
2006-02-06git-rerere: reuse recorded resolve.Libravatar Junio C Hamano1-0/+177
In a workflow that employs relatively long lived topic branches, the developer sometimes needs to resolve the same conflict over and over again until the topic branches are done (either merged to the "release" branch, or sent out and accepted upstream). This commit introduces a new command, "git rerere", to help this process by recording the conflicted automerge results and corresponding hand-resolve results on the initial manual merge, and later by noticing the same conflicted automerge and applying the previously recorded hand resolution using three-way merge.
