In previous changes, we've turned on warning for quoted CR in base64 or
quoted-printable email messages. Some projects see those quoted CR a lot,
they know that it happens most of the time, and they find it's desirable
to always strip those CR.
Those projects in question usually fall back to use other tools to handle
patches when receive such patches.
Let's help those projects handle those patches by stripping those
excessive CR.

In previous change, Git starts to warn for quoted CRLF in decoded
base64/QP email. Despite those warnings are usually helpful,
quoted CRLF could be part of some users' workflow.
Let's give them an option to turn off the warning completely.

In 95791be750 (doc: camelCase the i18n config variables to improve
readability, 2017-07-17), the other i18n config variables were
camel cased. However, this one instance was missed.
Camel case and monospace "i18n.commitEncoding" so that it matches the
surrounding text.

The text tries to say the code accepts many variations that look remotely
like scissors and perforation marks, but gives too little detail for users
to decide what is and what is not taken as a scissors line for themselves.
Instead of describing the heuristics more, just spell out what will always
be accepted, namely "-- >8 --", as it would not help users to give them
more choices and flexibility and be "creative" in their scissors line.

mailinfo documentation: accurately describe non -k case
|
|
Since its very first description of -k, the documentation for
git-mailinfo claimed that (in the case without -k) after cleaning up
bracketed strings [blah], it would insert [PATCH].
It doesn't; on the contrary, one of the important jobs of mailinfo is
to remove those strings.
Since we're already there, rewrite the paragraph to give a complete
enumeration of all the transformations. Specifically, it was missing
the whitespace normalization (run of isspace(c) -> ' ') and the
removal of leading ':'.

The SYNOPSIS sections of most commands that span several lines already
use [verse] to retain line breaks. Most commands that don't span
several lines seem not to use [verse]. In the HTML output, [verse]
does not only preserve line breaks, but also makes the section
indented, which causes a slight inconsistency between commands that
use [verse] and those that don't. Use [verse] in all SYNOPSIS sections
for consistency.
Also remove the blank lines from git-fetch.txt and git-rebase.txt to
align with the other man pages. In the case of git-rebase.txt, which
already uses [verse], the blank line makes the [verse] not apply to
the last line, so removing the blank line also makes the formatting
within the document more consistent.
While at it, add single quotes to 'git cvsimport' for consistency with
other commands.

The point of these sections is generally to:
1. Give credit where it is due.
2. Give the reader an idea of where to ask questions or
file bug reports.
But they don't do a good job of either case. For (1), they
are out of date and incomplete. A much more accurate answer
can be gotten through shortlog or blame. For (2), the
correct contact point is generally git@vger, and even if you
wanted to cc the contact point, the out-of-date and
incomplete fields mean you're likely sending to somebody
useless.
So let's drop the fields entirely from all manpages except
git(1) itself. We already point people to the mailing list
for bug reports there, and we can update the Authors section
to give credit to the major contributors and point to
shortlog and blame for more information.
Each page has a "This is part of git" footer, so people can
follow that to the main git manpage.

The documentation was quite inconsistent when spelling 'git cmd' if it
only refers to the program, not to some specific invocation syntax:
both 'git-cmd' and 'git cmd' spellings exist.
The current trend goes towards dashless forms, and there is precedent
in 647ac70 (git-svn.txt: stop using dash-form of commands.,
2009-07-07) to actively eliminate the dashed variants.
Replace 'git-cmd' with 'git cmd' throughout, except where git-shell,
git-cvsserver, git-upload-pack, git-receive-pack, and
git-upload-archive are concerned, because those really live in the
$PATH.

By default, we remove leading [bracketed] [strings] from the Subject:
header when coming up with the summary of the patch. This is because
there are mailing lists etc that add their own headers to the subject, and
they know they can add things in brackets. The most obvious example is the
Linux kernel security list. Their emails look like
Subject: [Security] [patch] random: make get_random_int() more random
and other people mangle Subject: themselves in a similar way, e.g.:
Subject: [PATCH -rc] [BUGFIX] x86: fix kernel_trap_sp()
Subject: [BUGFIX][PATCH] fix bad page removal from LRU (Was Re: [RFC][PATCH] ..
even though "fix" is more than enough cue to mark it as a [BUGFIX].
Some projects however want to keep these bracketed strings. With this
option, we remove only [bracketed strings that contain word PATCH], so we
will turn things like these
[PATCH] [mailinfo] -b ...
[PATCH v2] [mailinfo] -b ...
[PATCH (v2) 1/4] [mailinfo] -b ...
into
[mailinfo] -b ...
This lacks tests and integration to the "git am" toolchain to be useful,
but it is a start.

The names of git commands are not meant to be entered at the
commandline; they are just names. So we render them in italics,
as is usual for command names in manpages.
Using
doit () {
perl -e 'for (<>) { s/\`(git-[^\`.]*)\`/'\''\1'\''/g; print }'
}
for i in git*.txt config.txt diff*.txt blame*.txt fetch*.txt i18n.txt \
merge*.txt pretty*.txt pull*.txt rev*.txt urls*.txt
do
doit <"$i" >"$i+" && mv "$i+" "$i"
done
git diff

Following what appears to be the predominant style, format
names of commands and commandlines both as `teletype text`.
While we're at it, add articles ("a" and "the") in some
places, italicize the name of the command in the manual page
synopsis line, and add a comma or two where it seems appropriate.

Since the git-* commands are not installed in $(bindir), using
"git-command <parameters>" in examples in the documentation is
not a good idea. On the other hand, it is nice to be able to
refer to each command using one hyphenated word. (There is no
escaping it, anyway: man page names cannot have spaces in them.)
This patch retains the dash in naming an operation, command,
program, process, or action. Complete command lines that can
be entered at a shell (i.e., without options omitted) are
made to use the dashless form.
The changes consist only of replacing some spaces with hyphens
and vice versa. After a "s/ /-/g", the unpatched and patched
versions are identical.

With the dashed forms of git commands not in $(bindir), we have
to change many instances of "git-command" to "git command". Also,
for consistency it is at times appropriate to make the opposite
change. In some cases, the change is not so simple as changing one
character.
This patch gets rid of some of those cases by rewrapping lines.

This default regex now matches explicit values, and unfortunately in this
case gitlink was being matched by just 'link', causing the wrong inline
macro template to be applied. By renaming the macro, we can avoid being
matched by the wrong regex.

Specifying the value for a single letter, single dash option
parameter with equal sign looked funny, and more importantly
calling the flag to override encoding from utf-8 to something
else "-u" (obviously abbreviated from "utf-8") did not make any
sense. So spell it out.
