2017-06-26sha1_file: refactor has_sha1_file_with_flagsLibravatar Jonathan Tan4-23/+13
has_sha1_file_with_flags() implements many mechanisms in common with sha1_object_info_extended(). Make has_sha1_file_with_flags() a convenience function for sha1_object_info_extended() instead. Signed-off-by: Jonathan Tan <jonathantanmy@google.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2017-06-26sha1_file: do not access pack if unneededLibravatar Jonathan Tan1-0/+11
Currently, regardless of the contents of the "struct object_info" passed to sha1_object_info_extended(), that function always accesses the packfile whenever it returns information about a packed object, since it needs to populate "u.packed". Add the ability to pass NULL, and use NULL-ness of the argument to activate an optimization in which sha1_object_info_extended() does not needlessly access the packfile. A subsequent patch will make use of this optimization. A similar optimization is not made for the cached and loose cases as it would not cause a significant performance improvement. 2017-06-26sha1_file: teach sha1_object_info_extended more flagsLibravatar Jonathan Tan2-19/+28
Improve sha1_object_info_extended() by supporting additional flags. This allows has_sha1_file_with_flags() to be modified to use sha1_object_info_extended() in a subsequent patch. Signed-off-by: Jonathan Tan <jonathantanmy@google.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2017-06-21sha1_file: refactor read_objectLibravatar Jonathan Tan2-42/+43
read_object() and sha1_object_info_extended() both implement mechanisms such as object replacement, retrying the packed store after failing to find the object in the packed store then the loose store, and being able to mark a packed object as bad and then retrying the whole process. Consolidating these mechanisms would be a great help to maintainability. Therefore, consolidate them by extending sha1_object_info_extended() to support the functionality needed, and then modifying read_object() to use sha1_object_info_extended(). 2017-06-21sha1_file: move delta base cache code upLibravatar Jonathan Tan1-110/+110
In a subsequent patch, packed_object_info() will be modified to use the delta base cache, so move the relevant code to before packed_object_info(). Signed-off-by: Jonathan Tan <jonathantanmy@google.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2017-06-21sha1_file: rename LOOKUP_REPLACE_OBJECTLibravatar Jonathan Tan3-18/+18
The LOOKUP_REPLACE_OBJECT flag controls whether the lookup_replace_object() function is invoked by sha1_object_info_extended(), read_sha1_file_extended(), and lookup_replace_object_extended(), but it is not immediately clear which functions accept that flag. Therefore restrict this flag to only sha1_object_info_extended(), renaming it appropriately to OBJECT_INFO_LOOKUP_REPLACE and adding some documentation. Update read_sha1_file_extended() to have a boolean parameter instead, and delete lookup_replace_object_extended(). parse_sha1_header() also passes this flag to parse_sha1_header_extended() since commit 46f0344 ("sha1_file: support reading from a loose object of unknown type", 2015-05-03), but that has had no effect since that commit. Therefore this patch also removes this flag from that invocation. Signed-off-by: Jonathan Tan <jonathantanmy@google.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2017-06-21sha1_file: rename LOOKUP_UNKNOWN_OBJECTLibravatar Jonathan Tan3-4/+5
The LOOKUP_UNKNOWN_OBJECT flag was introduced in commit 46f0344 ("sha1_file: support reading from a loose object of unknown type", 2015-05-03) in order to support a feature in cat-file subsequently introduced in commit 39e4ae3 ("cat-file: teach cat-file a '--allow-unknown-type' option", 2015-05-03). Despite its name and location in cache.h, this flag is used neither in read_sha1_file_extended() nor in any of the lookup functions, but used only in sha1_object_info_extended(). Therefore rename this flag to OBJECT_INFO_ALLOW_UNKNOWN_TYPE, taking the name of the cat-file flag that invokes this feature, and move it closer to the declaration of sha1_object_info_extended(). Also add documentation for this flag. OBJECT_INFO_ALLOW_UNKNOWN_TYPE is defined to 2, not 1, to avoid conflicting with LOOKUP_REPLACE_OBJECT. Avoidance of this conflict is necessary because sha1_object_info_extended() supports both flags. 2017-06-15sha1_file: teach packed_object_info about typenameLibravatar Jonathan Tan1-17/+12
In commit 46f0344 ("sha1_file: support reading from a loose object of unknown type", 2015-05-06), "struct object_info" gained a "typename" field that could represent a type name from a loose object file, whether valid or invalid, as opposed to the existing "typep" which could only represent valid types. Some relatively complex manipulations were added to avoid breaking packed_object_info() without modifying it, but it is much easier to just teach packed_object_info() about the new field. Therefore, teach packed_object_info() as described above. Signed-off-by: Jonathan Tan <jonathantanmy@google.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>

Our code often opens a path to an optional file, to work on its contents when we can successfully open it. We can ignore a failure to open if such an optional file does not exist, but we do want to report a failure in opening for other reasons (e.g. we got an I/O error, or the file is there, but we lack the permission to open). The exact errors we need to ignore are ENOENT (obviously) and ENOTDIR (less obvious). Instead of repeating comparison of errno with these two constants, introduce a helper function to do so. * jc/noent-notdir: treewide: use is_missing_file_error() where ENOENT and ENOTDIR are checked compat-util: is_missing_file_error()

2017-06-07sha1dc: update from upstreamLibravatar Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason2-9/+27
Update sha1dc from the latest version by the upstream maintainer[1]. See commit a0103914c2 ("sha1dc: update from upstream", 2017-05-20) for the latest update. That update was done sans some whitespace changes by upstream, which is why the diff here isn't the same as the upstream cc46554..e139984. It also brings in a change[2] upstream made which should hopefully address the breakage in 2.13.1 on Cygwin, see [3]. Cygwin defines both _BIG_ENDIAN and _LITTLE_ENDIAN. Adam Dinwoodie reports on the mailing list that that upstream commit fixes the issue on Cygwin[4]. 1. https://github.com/cr-marcstevens/sha1collisiondetection/commit/e1399840b501a68ac6c8d7ed9a5cb1455480200e 2. https://github.com/cr-marcstevens/sha1collisiondetection/commit/a24eef58c0684078405f8c7a89f9b78271432005 3. <20170606100355.GC25777@dinwoodie.org> (https://public-inbox.org/git/20170606100355.GC25777@dinwoodie.org/) 4. <20170606124323.GD25777@dinwoodie.org> (https://public-inbox.org/git/20170606124323.GD25777@dinwoodie.org/) Signed-off-by: Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason <avarab@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2017-06-07sha1dc: ignore indent-with-non-tab whitespace violationsLibravatar Jeff King1-0/+1
The upstream sha1dc code indents some lines with spaces. While this doesn't match Git's coding guidelines, it's better to leave this imported code untouched than to try to make it match our style. However, we can use .gitattributes to tell "diff --check" and "git am" not to bother us about it. Signed-off-by: Jeff King <peff@peff.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2017-06-07t5313: make extended-table test more deterministicLibravatar Jeff King1-1/+7
Commit a1283866b (t5313: test bounds-checks of corrupted/malicious pack/idx files, 2016-02-25) added a test that requires our corrupted pack index to have two objects. The entry for the first one remains untouched, but we corrupt the entry for second one. Since the index stores the entries in sha1-sorted order, this means that the test must make sure that the sha1 of the object we expect to be corrupted ("$object") sorts after the other placeholder object. That commit used the HEAD commit as the placeholder, but the script never calls test_tick. That means that the commit object (and thus its sha1) depends on the timestamp when the test script is run. This usually works in practice, because the sha1 of $object starts with "fff". The commit object will sort after that only 1 in 4096 times, but when it does the test will fail. One obvious solution is to add the test_tick call to get a deterministic commit sha1. But since we're relying on the sort order for the test to function, let's make that very explicit by just generating a second blob with a known sha1.
